Mobile Phone & Cancer Risks
Mobile phone and cancer has become a topic of concern due to the high number of users. Back on 2011, RF radiation was classified as a Group 2B “possible” human carcinogen by the IARC (International Agency on Cancer).
Numerous tests have been conducted on the effects of mobile radiation and the results include,
- brain cancer,
- tumors of the acoustic nerve and salivary glands,
- lower sperm count,
- headaches,
- effects on learning, memory, hearing, behavior and sleep.
The use of mobile phone has increased over time and it has become one of our favorite gadgets due to its unique size and capabilities.
Nowadays mobile phone can perform numerous tasks that was once meant for PCs and laptops that’s why they are so popular.
Mobile phones use electromagnetic radiation together with other wireless communication devices and networks such as Wi-Fi.
According to some recent studies, scientists have linked the use of mobile phone to Cancer.
Mobile phones and other wireless devices emit radioactive frequencies (RF) radiation when turned ON. As long as it is powered ON the devices is in constant communication with cell towers even if not in use.
The RF radiation that mobile phones and other wireless devices emit has a biological effect heating the tissue by exciting its molecules.
The W.H.O agency for Research on Cancer, said that cell-phone radiation is carcinogenic.
Recently an Italian court ruled in favor of a plaintiff who argued that his brain tumor was as a result of excessive cell-phone use over a long period of time.
How To Protect Yourself From Mobile Phone Radiation
- Keep cellphones away from your body when not in use.
- While sleeping, do not put your phones under pillow or near head.
- Limit your cellphone usage especially when you are in weak signal locations or travelling or on high speed trains or car. This is because the phone will emit abnormal radiation levels.
- Do not use radiation Shields or devices that blocks radiation. This will result to the phone working harder and emit more energy to keep on connection.
- Also it is encouraged to use the speaker during calls rather than placing the phone close to your ears.
Studies are still ongoing and more information will be given out for us to understand this but until then it’s better to keep yourself safe
